DEAR LIFE

For the past few years I've been working closely with Director Carmen Pollard on a very special documentary film. The story follows a man suffering with a terminal illness and questions our ability to speak freely about death. Image below - Filming James in his final days, surrounding by family and much love.

THE PERFECT STATE

Three years of shooting, zero funding, 20 title changes, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears and my film The Perfect State is finally complete. Apart from a lack of any funding, this was by far one of the best experiences of my life. A huge thanks to my colleagues for their contributions. Crew member and online specialist George Faulkner and Sound design master Mark Lazeski. Check out the trailer below and I'll be updating its festival progress as it happens! Hopefully we get into a few!

TOAD PEOPLE TRAILER

January 2016 marks the date that our TOAD PEOPLE film trailer (in collaboration with the Wilderness Committee) becomes a reality. The trailer hopes to raise both awareness and crowd source cash for the completion of our film. Check out https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/toad-people#/ if you feel like donating!

FILMING SAGE GROUSE FOR NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

March of 2015 was spent in the field doing a segment on Sage Grouse birds for National Geographic. Long days and nights were spent in the bush documenting the tracking, capturing, and re-locating these birds from Oregon to Washington.

FILMING OWLS WITH NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

In June, 2014 I was fortunate to get the opportunity to shoot for National Geographic. We worked for 5 days in Oregon and our objective was to follow the Spotted Owl. One of the best experiences I've ever had filming birds in the wild.

LULULEMON VIDEO INSTALLATION

Recently shot a short video installation for Lululemon. "The Art of Stealing" is a collaboration between Lululemon LAB X and the Response Dance Group. Film directed by Jenn Strom.

SHORT FILM MAKES IT'S WAY INTO A SERIES

One of my latest short films has premiered (and will be re-played regularly) as a part of Knowledge Network's original series TAKE ME HOME. The series follows celebrities, artists, musicians, and athletes, touching on what home means to them in British Columbia. For my film I followed professional bike rider Travis Collier, and created a piece that connected his riding grounds to a place that feels very much like home to him.

Below is the most recent of the three videos which were shot over the past 3 years.

BRAD PREVEDOROS PORTRAIT

I directed and shot this short portrait of Brad Prevedoros early summer 2013. The film tells the story of a guitar musician who has made genuine choices around his work and his craft…choices that have contributed to both a self-sustaining career and a man of great integrity. Special thanks to the rest of the crew - Linda McKinlay, George Faulkner, and Mark Lazeski.

SHAKESPEARE'S GIFT

This piece touches on the bird species known as Starlings. We follow biologist Tony Williams in his quest to study, uncover, and dispel some of the myths about this misunderstood avian. I shot and edited this solo over the course of 2011/2012. Music and sound design by Mark Lazeski.

NOMINATED FOR BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY AT THE LEO AWARDS

I've recently been nominated for a LEO AWARD for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY. The film I'm nominated for is a documentary produced by the National Film Board called UNINTERRUPTED.  It was directed by award winning filmmaker Nettie Wild and it's story focuses around the Adams River Salmon Run. I'll be walking the red carpet on June 7th, 2013 at the 'Celebration Awards Ceremony'.  Fingers crossed.

DEUS EX BEHIND THE SCENES

Shooting interviews is one of the biggest parts of my job as a documentary/commercial filmmaker. It's a fine line between shooting a good looking interview and a great one, and in this piece I was fortunate enought to experiment with a few tracking moves during some of the talking heads in order to up the production value further.

FALLEN GARDENS ON KNOWLEDGE NETWORK

My film Fallen Gardens will make it's broadcast debut on the Knowledge Network over the coming months. It's always very exciting to get my work broadcast on television and I'm thrilled to be able to collaborate with such an awesome group of people over at Knowledge. Five other short films of mine will also be playing periodically on the network throughout the broadcast day.  Check the trailer below...

SKIMBOARD COMMERCIAL

A cold Spring day was had by all while I shot this skimboard commercial for the local brand 'Skull Skates'. Tim Ladner is a trooper.

BIRDS OF THE OKANAGAN

I recently shot and edited this video for the Wilderness Committee as part of a series showcasing endangered species in BC. This video touches on local legend Dick Cannings and his life in the Okanagan as a birder.
